Player disqualified from WSOP tournament for smoking at the table
A participant in the $3,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em tournament was removed from the event on June 19 after attempting to smoke at the table.
Video of the incident was posted on WSOP's official social media. In the footage, the player argues over a lit cigarette and refuses to put it out. Security was called to the table. One of his opponents demanded at least a round penalty. Professional Nick Schulman ironically dubbed the offender a "legend."
A WSOP source later told PokerNews that the player was also disqualified for drinking alcohol and hiding chips in his pocket. He was escorted from the tournament area without further incident. No ban from Caesars properties followed.
Smoking has been prohibited in U.S. poker rooms since 2003. The incident was a rare outright violation of this rule at a major live tournament.
