# Spin & Go: Strategy for Turbo Tournaments

Modern online poker offers a wide choice of games, disciplines, and formats. Players have access to Hold'em, Omaha, Chinese poker, and Short Deck. Some platforms offer the chance to play Badugi and Stud. Among the disciplines there's less variety: most of the audience prefers cash and tournaments. The latter also include Spin&Go. Let's discuss them in more detail.

# Spin & Go: Strategy for Turbo Tournaments

What is Spin&Go

Spin&Go, or Spins, are fast three-handed tournaments with a random prize. The payout size is determined before the Spin&Go starts.

Winamax Poker invented the format, PokerStars popularized it

A player is awarded a sum ranging from 2 to 10,000 buy-ins. The bigger the prize, the less often it lands. Opponents start with a 25 BB stack, and the blind level grows every 2-3 minutes. In its early days the format was a variation of the Sit&Go discipline. Over time it pushed it out. The two main advantages of Spin&Go:

  • Speed. A tournament rarely lasts longer than 10 minutes. Professional poker players grind enormous volumes across tens of thousands of tournaments and earn from rakeback.

  • Reward. When the maximum multiplier lands, players can earn from $100,000 in just a few minutes. On PokerKing you can win $750,000 in a $5 tournament. Such an opportunity attracts a huge number of recreational players.

The Spin&Go format was invented by Winamax Poker in 2013. A year later PokerStars launched Spin and Go. The tournaments rapidly gained popularity and buried the other Sit&Go variations. Recreational players left: Heads Up (HU), Double or Nothing (DON), Multi-Table Sit&Go (MTSNG), and classic Sit&Go. Many rooms removed Sit&Go from their lobbies. On PokerStars, Spin Go got its own section. By December 2025, most platforms in the industry had implemented fast tournaments. They gave them different names: Spin&Gold, Twister, Spin&Win, Blast, Windfalls, Spins, Expresso.

Some rooms experiment with tournament rules. PokerStars cranks randomness to the max in Spin&Go Max. They involve 3 to 8 players, and the winner chooses the final prize from three hidden options. 888Poker speeds up Blast with automatic all-ins after a couple of blind levels. PokerOK added 6-player tournaments to the classic Spin&Gold. Pokerdom, alongside ordinary Windfalls, runs tournaments under Chinese poker rules.

In most rooms in the industry, the starting stack size and the speed at which blinds grow depend on the multiplier that landed. For example, PokerStars Spin&Go offer the following structure:

Spin and Go strategy

The simple rules of Spin&Go shouldn't mislead you. To win at them, you need to account for many nuances. The key role in strategy belongs to preflop charts. The speed at which blinds grow and the modest starting stacks reduce the room to maneuver. With 25 BB you can't play postflop actively. Chart-based play comes to the fore. There's almost no room for thin decisions in Sit&Go.

Standard tournament tactics won't work in Spin and Go. You can't wait for a strong hand and realize its advantage in a fast-paced Spin&Go. In No-Limit Texas Hold'em, pocket aces are dealt once every 221 hands. AK comes once every 82 hands. On average, in a Spin&Go opponents play 25-30 hands. That's why players must widen their ranges and act more aggressively. Each position needs its own chart.

From the BTN, open 35-40% of hands. If opponents allow it — play wider. As your skill grows, you'll be able to play more hands effectively. We don't recommend raising with any two cards — you risk ending up in a tricky spot with a dubious hand.

On the small blind, only 1 opponent sits after us, so we can play wider? Actually — no. We recommend slightly narrowing the range relative to BTN raises. Another feature of playing on the small blind is the bet size. To avoid creating favorable conditions for the opponent on the BB, open 2.5 big blinds. If the opponent on the BB plays cautiously, you can widen your raising range and reduce its size.

Other tips for playing Spin&Go look like this:

  • On the BTN, open with a 2 BB raise. There's no point entering the pot with bigger bets. Only 2 people sit after us, so there's no need to reduce the number of opponents in the pot. We'll always have time to build the pot and go all-in. The size of the preflop raise won't play a big role.

  • Watch your opponents. Many players see no point in observing opponents in Spin&Go. The logic is as follows: "the tournament is fast, I won't have time to gather information, I'll just bet on push/fold." However, you can sometimes spot gaps in an opponent's play. They'll let you earn extra money. Statistics from a poker tracker will also be useful.

  • Sharpen your push/fold. From the start to the final stage of the tournament, 3-4 minutes pass. To consistently win Spins, you need a strong push/fold. Train it away from the tables. We recommend honing your all-in skills in dedicated software. ICMIZER 3 suits this better than the rest. We covered it and other useful tools in our software guide.

Let's discuss the standing of Spin&Go on the most popular platforms in more detail.

PokerOK. The tournaments were placed in the Spin&Gold section. Players have access to Spins with buy-ins from $0.25 to $200. You can win $500,000 in a $5 Spin&Gold. The highest chance of catching the $1,000,000 prize goes to participants in $200 tournaments. In them the maximum multiplier lands with a probability of 300 to 100,000,000. Alongside the three-player version, there are also 6-max tournaments in the lobby. The appeal of Spin&Gold is boosted by a daily $50,000 race. Also worth noting is the ELO rating for Spin&Go players. The fight for places in the hierarchy makes the format more competitive.

PokerStars. The former industry leader offers Spin&Go with buy-ins from $0.50 to $50. The maximum prize pool of the tab equals $250,000. In Spin and Go Max tournaments the rewards are higher. For example, in a $50 Spin a prize pool of $800,000 can land. PokerStars also has Spin&Go in Omaha. In fast tournaments, not only cash prizes are awarded, but also tickets to live series. In December 2025, passes to a Spins tournament in Paris were handed out. Periodically PokerStars organizes leaderboards for Spin&Go players.

RedStar Poker. On the iPoker network, the Spin and Go analog was named Twister. Entry into the tournaments costs from €0.50 to €200. In ordinary Twister the prize pool reaches €200,000. The platform also offers Spins with a progressive jackpot. In them the reward grows every minute. At the time of writing, the prize pool had reached €700,000. RedStar Poker fuels audience interest with a weekly €12,500 rake race.

Winamax Poker. The French room placed fast tournaments in the Expresso section. Clients have access to tournaments with buy-ins from €0.25 to €500. With a probability of 1 in 10,000,000, a €1,000,000 prize pool can land in a €2 Expresso. In more expensive tournaments the chance of getting the maximum multiplier is higher. Expresso also gives away tickets to online festivals.

€2,000,000 — the largest prize pool for Spin and Go format tournaments

PokerKing. The rooms of the Winning Poker network offer Jackpots for $5, $15, and $50. Regardless of buy-in size, the million-dollar prize pool lands with a probability of 1 in 5,000,000. In more expensive tournaments you can more often catch high, but not maximum, multipliers. The appeal of Jackpots is boosted by the weekly Sit&Crush rake race. Additional money also comes from the loyalty program with rakeback up to 65%.

Pokerdom. The Russian platform named its tournaments Windfalls. The minimum buy-in equals 50 rubles, the maximum — 25,000 rubles. The prize pool reaches 9,500,000 rubles. The ordinary Windfalls under No-Limit Texas Hold'em rules are complemented by Omaha and Chinese poker versions. A Heads Up version of the fast tournaments adds variety too. The format's appeal is boosted by the Golden Windfall Jackpot. As of December 5, 2025, it equals 4,600,000 rubles.

Why multi-table tournaments are better than Spin&Go

The chance to win big money in a few minutes has drawn a huge number of recreational players into Spin and Go. On the surface, the chance to convert $5 into $1,000,000 looks tempting. Dig deeper, and the probability of winning a Spin&Go with the maximum multiplier is comparable to a lottery. A professional will prefer a discipline where the result is influenced by them, not by luck. In an ordinary tournament a poker player has more control than in Spin and Go. Let's list the other advantages:

  • Variety. Minimal postflop and a focus on push/fold are the main feature of the format. There's almost no room for a nice bluff or for exploiting opponents through observation in a fast-paced Spin&Go. In most cases the player who trained longer in a calculator wins. Multi-table tournaments give more opportunities to realize a superiority in skill.

  • Versatility. Top Spin and Go players know the push/fold chart perfectly, but aren't as good postflop. Tournament stars show a high level of skill both preflop and postflop. If a player beats the field in online poker, they'll also show a good result in a live series. Ideally — they'll win the World Series of Poker, World Poker Tour, or another festival. Spin&Go is less suited as preparation for live tournaments.

  • Room to grow while learning. To get started in Spin&Go, you need to know the basic principles of the format and sharpen your push/fold. Hundreds of hours of training and practice will get you to a good level in Spins. Becoming a master of tournament poker is harder. The path to the top takes thousands of hours of study and play. You can raise your skill level in tournaments endlessly. Many players are drawn to poker precisely by the opportunity to progress daily.

  • Freedom. Any increase in commission hits the income of Spin&Go players. In some cases, high rake makes Spins unprofitable. We don't dismiss the possibility of the format dying out either. A few years ago Spin&Go pushed Sit&Go off almost all platforms. There's no guarantee that Spin&Go won't fall victim to the "next big game." Tournaments are the foundation of poker: they're not at risk of disappearing.

  • More emotion. A victory over an opponent in a multi-hour tournament brings strong joy. Success in a particular Spin&Go carries no emotional charge. Professionals of the format play thousands of tournaments a month. In most of them a win lets you double the buy-in. A triumph in a big tournament impresses other players. A win in a Spin&Go with a high multiplier creates no sensation in the poker community.

You can win a million in a classic tournament too. For example, in The Venom with an $8,000,000 guarantee

FAQ

What sets Spin&Go apart from other poker disciplines?

Spin&Go are fast tournaments for three players with a random reward. Against the backdrop of similar formats, Spin and Go stands out by its approach to the prize pool. Tournament participants learn the size of the reward after registering. In ordinary tournaments the prizes are determined in advance. Spin&Go is also set apart by the high speed at which blinds grow and the modest number of chips in the starting stack.

What's better to start with: Spin&Go or classic tournaments?

Spin&Go attracts newcomers with its low barrier to entry and clear rules. Full-fledged tournaments are harder to study. To win them, you need not only push/fold, but also postflop skills. If you plan to become a versatile player, it's better to choose classic tournaments.

Which room offers the maximum prize in Spin and Go?

In Expresso on Winamax Poker a prize pool of up to €2,000,000 can land. A million can be caught on PokerOK, partypoker, 888Poker, and PokerKing.

How do you learn to win at Spin&Go?

To perform successfully in fast tournaments, you need to follow the starting-hand chart and play push/fold skillfully. You can work with ranges in Flopzilla or FreeBetRange. ICMIZER 3 will let you practice the late stage of tournaments.
