Holz won his fifth Triton Poker title (and a banana)
Fedor Holz became the champion of the $40,000 Mystery Bounty tournament at the Triton Poker festival in Montenegro. The German player claimed his fifth title after a two-year break, agreeing to a deal heads-up with Aleksey Ponyakov and then winning the play-out. The Latvian reg decided to bluff on the 9♠️K♠️Q♥️5♠️K♥️ river and shoved all-in for 11 BB with 10♥️3♠️, but his opponent didn't fold and called with Q♣️10♠️, making two pair. It's worth noting that Holz has won all five heads-ups he's played at Triton, while Ponyakov has lost four of his five duels.
Holz earned $528,811 and received 11 bounty envelopes worth at least $40,000 each. There's a strong chance the German will become the first player in the series' history to receive a seven-figure sum. Ponyakov finished the event with winnings of $407,189, and after losing heads-up he also handed his opponent a banana, which had become a kind of lucky charm for him throughout the Mystery Bounty.
Making his Triton debut, Mikhail Soltanov once again finished seventh, after an identical result in the $25K Golden Decade. In this tournament the Russian went into a three-way all-in, but his flush draw didn't get there, and he busted, earning $99,000.
