Matthew Moss and Sebastian Pauli win their first career bracelets
🟡Briton Matthew Moss became the winner of the $800 8-Handed Deepstack NLH. The English player got past a field of 3,903 entrants, claimed his first bracelet, and earned $318,556, the second-biggest result of his career.
In the heads-up against American Darryl Ronconi, Moss came in as chip leader, having knocked out Chongxian Yan and Shalom Elharar. The one-on-one play lasted less than an hour. In the decisive hand, Moss went all-in with ♣️♠️, and Ronconi called with ♦️♦️. The flop came ♥️2️⃣♠️, on the ♦️ turn the Briton made a pair, and on the ♦️ river he got there with a second pair. Darryl Ronconi finished second and earned $212,106.
"It's very exciting to win your first bracelet, especially in a tournament that drew 3,900 entrants. That's the whole beauty of Vegas. It's the true home of big poker," Moss said in an interview with PokerNews.
🟡Sebastian Pauli won the Razz tournament with a $1,500 buy-in. The German pro finished fourth in a similar $2,500 event back in 2013 and has since regularly tried to win a bracelet in this discipline. This time the event drew 519 entries.
In the $1,500 Razz heads-up, two Germans met for the first time in WSOP history. Sebastian Pauli and Dennis Weiss battled it out for the win over the course of 4.5 hours. The opponents alternately held huge leads, but the one trailing kept managing to double up and survive. In the decisive hand, Pauli caught a four on sixth street, which completed his hand and left Weiss without outs. Pauli took the top prize of $135,564, while Weiss earned $90,354.
Sebastian Pauli added a WSOP bracelet to his European Poker Tour title. With this, he joined Adrian Mateos, Hossein Ensan, Jason Mercier, and Liv Boeree among the players who have won on both the EPT and the World Series.
"My first WSOP event was 13 years ago. I came very close to winning back then, and since then I hadn't gone that far again. So this bracelet means a great deal to me," Pauli said.
