Shaun Deeb: "In our heads-up, Cowden behaved like an absolute jerk"
Eight-time World Series bracelet winner Shaun Deeb slammed Joey Cowden for his behavior in the heads-up of the $3000 9-Game Mix. Deeb stated that his opponent at the final table called him a villain and said that he was hated. That's how the American regular explained why he didn't shake Cowden's hand after the loss.
"The rails on both sides were extremely loud, and his adrenaline was off the charts. I understand, it's an important moment for him — the biggest tournament result of his entire career. I think the emotions of the moment got the better of him. But he behaved like an absolute jerk.
In the last hour or two he did a lot of stuff, and I wish it had been caught on camera. It would have explained to the viewers why I walked away from the final table.
Cowden and I used to be on friendly terms, but now he's shown his bad blood. I don't think he's good enough to play heads-up against me again, but if it happens, he won't win," Deeb said in an interview with PokerOrg.
Of note, back in April Deeb was criticized for not shaking the hand of amateur Gilles Silbernagel after losing the heads-up of the €565 COLOSSUS.
On June 21, Joey Cowden won the third bracelet of his career, earning $254,470. Shaun Deeb made the money for the second time at the series in Las Vegas and took home $166,540.
