Frédéric Norman won a WSOP bracelet in a game he had never played before
Canadian player Frédéric Norman became the winner of the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better at the 2026 WSOP. The win earned him his debut gold bracelet and $235,377 in prize money. Notably, this tournament was the Canadian's first such experience in his career.
Norman seized the lead on the final day and confidently held his stack to the very end. In a key hand, the Canadian eliminated seven-time bracelet winner Josh Arieh ($110,085). After that, the final heads-up against Portuguese player Michael Rodrigues lasted just one hand. Norman made a straight against Rodrigues' lower set; Rodrigues received $156,863 for second place.
Frédéric hadn't planned to play this discipline at all. Before the start of the event, he didn't even fully understand exactly how the rankings of low combinations beat each other. The Canadian registered for the tournament solely for the sake of points for his Chocolate Factory team in the $25k Fantasy draft.
I was just learning and figuring out the rules right in the middle of the hands, working some things out logically. Because I didn't know the nuances, on the first day I even accidentally folded some decent cards a couple of times! But I have a strong foundation in classic PLO, so I adapted quickly. I thought: why not?
Right after the win, the newly crowned champion rushed to register for the next Big O tournament to see whether his upswing would continue.
