Former UFC champion Covington misses the ITM in the $25,000 High Roller PLO
Former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington took part in the $25,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha at the World Series of Poker. The event drew 451 entries, with 68 players making the money. Covington busted in 109th place.
Of note, the 38-year-old fighter has earned $422,324 in live tournaments, with his best cash being $70,930 for tenth place in the $10,000 NLH GGMillion$ Championship at WSOP Paradise 2024.
"I'm pretty strong at PLO. In Omaha the variance is much higher, and I like that. I'm a gambler by nature, and PLO is better suited for people like that. Strong Hold'em high rollers lose part of their edge here. They just sit around all day waiting for aces, playing very tight. PLO is a lot more fun," Covington told PokerNews.
31 players remain in the $25,000 High Roller PLO. Alex Foxen leads the chip count with 171 big blinds. Also still in contention for the title are Chance Kornuth (10th place, 64 BB), Tom Vogelsang (15th place, 51 BB), Artur Martirosian (18th place, 43 BB) and Daniel Negreanu (26th place, 25 BB).
Colby Covington fought his last UFC bout in December 2024, losing to Joaquin Buckley by technical knockout. The American fighter now competes in the RAF wrestling league, where he has won all three of his matches. On July 18, Covington will face the UFC's number-two ranked lightweight, Arman Tsarukyan — who has gone five wins in five fights — in RAF.
