62-year-old poker player reprimanded for overly intimate card protector
UK player Andrew Martin received a warning from WSOP staff for using an explicit card protector. The curious incident took place on Day 2 of the $1,000 Super Seniors tournament. Series management demanded that the silver device be removed from the table and added a note to the player's account.
Martin claims he couldn't find any explicit ban in the series rules on using a sex toy as a card protector.
Rule 112 of the WSOP only restricts dimensions — no more than 2 inches in diameter and 0.5 inches in depth — but doesn't regulate the nature of the object. The staff were probably guided by Rule 40(d), which requires participants to observe standards of courtesy at the table.
At the time the warning was issued, Martin had a stack of over 300,000 chips with 200 players remaining out of 3,323 starters. The first-place prize is $355,263.
